Sunday villain: Oddjob

If there's one classic Bond villain who cries out "you can construct a portrait of me using only geometric shapes", it would be Oddjob, that hat-throwing immovable object.

A few random facts about Harold Sakata, who played Oddjob in Goldfinger (entirely new to me, as I'm reading Wikipedia as I type this. I could just provide a link, but I've got to provide this blog with some kind of substance. Anyway, SHUT UP!):

  • After Goldfinger, Harold took on the informal middle name 'Oddjob'.
  • He starred in a movie called The Happy Hooker Goes to Washington. Presumably, not in the title role.
  • Harold was a wrestler until he was 55 years old.
  • He was the only Bond villain visible from space.
  • When he was 14 years old, Harold became king of the Mushroom People and remained their monarch until the Mushroom Kingdom was destroyed by Jamie Oliver in 1964.

Okay, I'm making these up now. Enjoy your Sunday.

Bames Jond on Saturday! - 30/07/11

The winner of the first weekly Bames Jond on Saturday contest, as chosen by Her Majesty's Laundry Service (which isn't just me in a wig, by the way), is Gav Heryng with this charming little tale!

Congrats, Gav!

Every strip submission was ace, and I hope the quality stays sharp every week.

If you want to write next Saturday's strip (this little unlettered beauty below), then send your funniest script to before Thursday at 1900 GMT! If Her Majesty's Laundry Service judge your hilarity to be the most hilarious, the words will forever be emblazoned across the coloured strip on 6th August!

Put words in Jond's mouth!

Sunday Villain: Ernst Stavro Blofeld

For whatever reason, I went hybrid on this one. My rendition of Donald Pleasance as Ernst Stavro Blofeld, using ballpoint pen, brush pen, magic marker, white gel pen and a couple of vectors.

Probably looks nothing like old Donald, but as long as it looks like Blofeld, that's a start.

You Write It! - Saturday Contest #1

You spend all week working your fingers to the bone and when Saturday rolls around, you just want to settle down and read the latest Bames Jond. But wait! There is no new episode on Saturday! How can this be?

The truth is, you deserve the weekend edition to be something a little more special. You deserve a contest!

Each Saturday, a Bames Jond strip will be posted up without dialogue or captions. It's up to YOU to send your scripts to before the weekly deadline of Thursday at 18:00 GMT. The funniest entry will be chosen at the discretion of Her Majesty's Laundry Service, then will appear in all its glory on the following Saturday, IN COLOUR! Yep, new fangled 2011-style digital colouring of 1950s comic strip artwork. There will also be a new (black-and-white) blank strip for you to have a go at.

Without further ado, here's the first Bames Jond on Saturday strip:

Now get writing!

Sunday Villain: Max Zorin

Since the comic updates Monday-Wednesday-Friday, it seems a shame to waste the weekend.

At least initially, every Sunday I'll be uploading a digital sketch of Bond villains (not Jond villains, you understand) as portrayed in the movies. The style may vary, but I'll always try to make sure they look like the baddies we know and love.

If anyone has a suggestion for something they'd rather see on a weekend, or if Saturday is better than Sunday... let me know.

First up, the Aryan psycho Max Zorin, last seen laughing as he fell off of the Golden Gate Bridge at the end of A View to a Kill.
